Training schedule

2023/2024 academic year spring semester

 

 

For doctoral students in semesters 1-4, online seminars every week.

 

Online: MS Teams - Doctoral School of Philosophy.

 

Study days (Saturday) for all students enrolled at the doctoral school, with personal attendance. The study days and conferences are organised for all students of the school, so attendance by philosophy graduates is expected.

 

Students with an MA in Philosophy or a previous five-year degree will attend individual training in agreement with their subject leader or the school head, online training is not compulsory but they may attend classes.

 

For doctoral students with a non-philosophy degree, participation in the following programme is a prerequisite for fulfilling the semester requirements. Participation in seminars is compulsory.

 

Online seminar, 1.5 hours per week:

 

Tuesday 16h-17.30h

Contemporary philosophy

 

A 15-minute English summary at the end of the presentations.

 

Accomplishment

  1. In-person participation in the online seminar.
  2.  Minimum 3 pages, essay no longer than 5 pages. For the topic of most interest to the student: a summary of the work of an author or period and a justification of why the author or period appealed to them. The essay should be submitted to the teacher of the chosen topic by prior arrangement. The teacher will send an email to the head of the secretariat, Alexandra Haffner-Kiss, confirming completion, haffner-kiss.alexandra@pte.hu

 

Submission: any time during the semester, until 15 May.

Once the certificates have been received, the semester will be accepted

 

In addition to the basic philosophical knowledge required for doctoral studies, the courses provide the basic knowledge of the history of philosophy and philosophy required for the complex examination at the end of the fourth semester.

 

 

Research seminars and individual consultations

 

It is compulsory for all doctoral students to choose it from the teachers and supervisors of the doctoral school. The supervisor will hold individual consultations for students working under his/her supervision, according to an agreed schedule and programme. The unit value of the individual consultation is the same as that of the research seminar. One research seminar or individual consultation in one semester is sufficient for the purposes of credit and semester credit. It is of course possible and recommended to attend more than one seminar.
